I was wondering if you knew of any organizations who studies feathers? I hate to throw them away if by chance there are legit people who study them. 

Please do not be mad, my cat caught it. It's her instinct to hunt. And yes, she is kept in a fenced yard and regularly given flea deterrents.  I think it's cruel to keep cats in the house to only get over weight and wanting to get out at any chance they get. If a cat is let out in a safe way (no chance of getting hit by car etc) I think it's appropriate.
